Lisa Ramthun, RN, MSN, CPHRM, FASHRM joined Premier Insurance Management Services (PIMS) and the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) team in 2020 as a Senior Risk & Patient Safety Consultant. Lisa is an experienced risk management professional with a strong background in system design, human behavior and Enterprise Risk Management, (ERM). Prior to joining PIMS and AEIX, Lisa was the President of LR Risk Strategies, LLC, which provided customized risk management and patient safety consulting services to healthcare organizations across the country. Lisa spent 12 years as the corporate vice president of risk management and patient safety for St. Joseph Health, in Irving, CA, where she had system oversight for the risk management, patient safety, captive and claims management, clinical data analytics, research, infection prevention, and regulatory readiness functions. She began her career as an emergency nurse, mobile intensive care nurse and nursing manager.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from West Haven University. Lisa has a strong history of leadership in the healthcare risk management community, recently serving as a Board member of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), as well as serving in a number of volunteer and elected positions including Chapter President for the Southern California Association for Healthcare Risk Management.
Phil Cary, ARM, CLCS joined the Premier Insurance Management Services team in 2019 as a Senior Account Executive. He is responsible for marketing strategy, retention, and new business of Premier’s Exclusive Insurance Purchasing and Partnership Programs for the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) membership throughout Western United States. Phillip has nine (9) years of healthcare professional liability insurance experience and eight (8) years of experience in the mortgage lending industry. Prior to joining the AEIX and Premier Insurance team, Phillip served as Senior National Account Manager with The Doctors Company, where he managed a sales team, a book of medical professional liability (MPL) business as well as the wholesale distribution operations of non-MPL lines. Phillip has created unique and long lasting insurance programs with healthcare partners through his strategic holistic approach to client management. He establishes strong successful relationships with his brokers, while thoughtfully negotiating robust terms and conditions for the members and brings a high degree of teamwork to the AEIX membership.
Phillip received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Humboldt State University. He holds an Associates of Risk Management (ARM) designation as well as a Commercial Liability Coverage Specialist (CLCS) from the Hartford and he maintains an agent license in both Property and Casualty as well as Life and Health.
Mollie K. O’Brien, JD is the Vice President of Claims and Litigation for the American Excess Insurance Exchange, RRG (AEIX). Mollie is an attorney with 25 years of legal experience in healthcare professional liability. Mollie began her professional career as a trial attorney defending health care providers in the north eastern states. After a decade, Mollie transitioned and advanced her professional focus to risk and claims management within the professional liability insurance market. For 15 years she has worked side by side with physician groups, large health systems and their panel of defense attorneys to successfully defend and manage professional lability claims. As a senior leader of AEIX, Mollie emphasizes trust, communication, consistency and strength in claims negotiation and corporate strategy. Prior to joining AEIX, Mollie was Director of Claims for Coverys where she oversaw the strategic direction of high severity, complex medical liability matters across multiple jurisdictions. Prior to Coverys, Mollie served as Senior Vice President / General Counsel for Emergency Medical Associates (“EMA”, now Envision) and Superior Insurance Company, RRG where she partnered with over 20 health system and the EMA physicians to reduce risk and manage claims in the face-paced, high severity emergency department setting.
Mollie obtained her juris doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law, and she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairfield University. Mollie currently maintains a license to practice law in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
DOUGLAS J. BORG, MHA, ARM, CPHRM, DFASHRM joined American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) in 2017 and is the Vice President of Risk Management. With broad experience in the fields of insurance, claims and risk management, Doug serves on the executive leadership team and is responsible for all operations and customized risk management services for AEIX members as well as strategic planning for annual improvement projects and collaboratives.
With more than 30 years of healthcare and clinical risk management experience, Doug has a strong history of leadership and has served on boards and committees at both the state and national level. He has been twice-elected president of the North Carolina Chapter of ASHRM and served as the President of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), in 2008. Additionally, Doug has presented nationally on various topics, continues to serve as faculty for industry educational courses, and has contributed to numerous publications, including a chapter in the fifth edition of ASHRM’s Risk Management Handbook.
Prior to joining AEIX, Doug was the Assistant VP, Risk Management for Duke University Health System, where he managed the day-to-day operations of the system’s captive insurance company including both risk financing and loss control activities. He holds a BS in Biology from Eastern Mennonite University, and earned his Master’s in Health Administration from the Medical College of Virginia (VCU).
Karen Bodmer, MBA, CPCU, RPLU is a Director Underwriting for Premier Insurance Management Services, Inc. (PIMS) and the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX). Karen has 33 years of property and casualty insurance experience and specializing in healthcare professional liability for the past 23 years. She joined AEIX in 1995 and operates as the policy manager for the entire AEIX book of business. Karen maintains a broad range of duties and functions for the underwriting team overall. Prior to joining AEIX, Karen worked for the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies.
Karen holds a Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) From San Diego State University and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Additionally, Karen holds both the CPCU and the RPLU insurance designations.
Carolyn has authored and co-authored several articles for the Journal of Healthcare Risk Management – ASHRM and co-authored an article for the Journal of Medicine and Law – Michigan State University, entitled ‘Addressing Inappropriate Care Provision at the End of Life: A Policy Proposal for Hospitals’. In 2013, Carolyn and her colleagues received a Premier, Inc. team award for participation in the Premier Perinatal Safety Initiative Phase I and II. Carolyn earned a bachelor’s degree in French Literature from University of California San Diego, Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law, as well as a Masters of Health Law degree from University of California San Diego and California Western School of Law.
Rebecca Price, CPHQ, CPPS joined Premier Insurance Management Services (PIMS) and the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) team in 2002 and is the Senior Quality Project Manager for AEIX. Rebecca coordinates the design, development and management of healthcare quality improvement projects and collaboratives. These include the current Premier/AEIX Perinatal Safety Collaborative, Bundle of JoyTM campaign as well the Perinatal Safety Initiative (2008-2012), the Emergency Department Safety Initiative (2010-2013) and the Vaginal Delivery Safety Checklist: Teaming Up for Safe Deliveries (2017-2018).
Rebecca has 27 years of claims and risk management experience. Prior to joining AEIX and the Premier Insurance team, Rebecca was a nurse in multiple hospital areas and a nurse paralegal for a large insurance defense law firm. Her clinical background and professional liability experience, along with certification in healthcare quality and patient safety, provide a unique perspective for her support of AEIX quality improvement efforts. Rebecca is also a member of the Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Healthcare Industry Forum.
Mary Danner is Sr. Risk & Patient Safety Consultant at Premier Insurance Management Services, Inc. (PIMS) and American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX). She has more than thirty-five years of experience in the healthcare industry working in clinical practice, healthcare administration, education, and consulting. Ms. Danner has provided risk management consulting for over 20 years on a nation-wide basis. Her clients have included single location and multi-hospital systems, university hospitals, community hospitals, large medical groups, free-standing ambulatory facilities, surgical centers, and long-term care facilities. She has also developed and presented numerous physician and staff education programs.
Ms. Danner’s clinical areas of expertise are in emergency/trauma and critical care. Ms. Danner received her nursing degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL, and her Masters of Health Law and Administration from DePaul University in Chicago, IL. She is a Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager (CPHRM), a Certified Professional Patient Safety (CPPS), and is a member of the American Society of Professionals in Patient Safety.
Carissa McKinney, MSA, has been with Premier Insurance Management Services, Inc (PIMS) and the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) for nine years, working in various capacities and roles. Carissa was promoted to Controller in 2016. Her primary responsibilities are to manage and oversee the financial reporting, actuarial process and claims information system for AEIX, including claims data for reinsurance, reserving and benchmarking. Carissa is actively involved across the organization working directly with our members and effectively with both the underwriting and claims teams to achieve the operational goals.
Carissa has 13 years of experience, including nine years in the insurance industry. Carissa received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Iowa in 2001 and a Master’s of Science degree in accounting from San Diego State University in 2003.
Kathryn Boucher, is Vice President of Regulatory and Compliance and is responsible for all regulatory and compliance functions for both American Excess Insurance Exchange, Risk Retention Group (AEIX) and Premier Insurance Management Services, Inc. (PIMS). In addition, Kate is responsible for corporate governance and enterprise risk management as well as supporting the finance department and serving on the leadership team.
Kate began her career in captive insurance in 1990 working for Marsh in Burlington, Vermont, providing accounting and regulatory compliance services for a portfolio of captive insurance companies and risk retention groups as well as advisory services for the formation of new captives and risk retention groups. Kate joined PIMS in 2002.
Prior to working in captive insurance, Kate worked in public accounting in Boston. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from Boston University. Kate is a Certified Public Accountant and has earned an Associate in Risk Management-ERM from the Insurance Institute of America, an Associate in Captive Insurance and the ICCIE Fellow Designation from the International Center for Captive Insurance Education. Kate currently serves on the Vermont Captive Insurance Association Finance Committee.
Ann Wozny joined Premier Insurance Management Services as Vice President, Sales & Marketing. She previously worked as Vice President, Business Development & Agency Services at Preferred Professional Insurance Company (PPIC), a Coverys company. In her most recent role she was responsible for all aspects of sales and marketing to the leadership of health systems, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and physician groups. Her primary focus was the design and implementation of professional liability insurance programs with a focal point on alignment of physicians with the health systems mission, quality, patient safety and operational efficiency initiatives.
Ann has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, having previously served as an account executive for Alexander & Alexander, Inc. and AON Risk Services of NE. She is a licensed property and casualty agent and consultant, and has earned the Accredited Advisor in Insurance designation. She received a Certificate in Management from The University of NE at Omaha’s College of Business Administration. Ms. Wozny is a member of the American Marketing Association, Independent Insurance Agents, and the Institute for Career Advancement Needs (ICAN). Ann is based in Omaha, Nebraska.
Tom has over 32 years of insurance experience, including 27 years focused in the healthcare industry. Prior to serving in his current role as VP, Business Development, he led the PIMS’ Sales & Marketing department which included a national marketing team focused on the endorsed commercial programs for Premier members.
Tom earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from The University of Iowa and holds a green Belt in Six Sigma, the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) degrees. He is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) and also served on the board for the North Carolina Chapter of ASHRM.
George Brooker is the Chief Financial Officer of Premier Insurance Management Services, Inc. (PIMS), and American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX). George has been with PIMS since 2014. He began his career at Coopers & Lybrand (a predecessor to PWC) and has held a variety of financial leadership positions throughout his career. Prior to joining PIMS, George was the Chief Financial Officer of Evolution Fresh, Inc. and a Senior Vice President of Operations at Encore Capital Group, Inc. He brings a strong background in mergers and acquisitions, risk financing and is a forward-facing leader with the AEIX health system membership.
George received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University and an MBA from Duke University.
The first successful project was the Perinatal Safety Initiative which received a three year grant from AHRQ and resulted in several published articles about High Reliability Teams and lowering malpractice claims as a result of improving clinical outcomes. A second collaborative focused on improving diagnosis in the Emergency Department (2010-2013), implementing diagnostic bundles and tracking harms resulting in malpractice allegations.
Currently, he is managing the 2017 quality collaborative, ”Vaginal Delivery Safety Checklist: Teaming Up for Safe Deliveries” with Becca Price, involving 14 hospitals nationally seeking to improve labor and delivery teamwork for vaginal deliveries. Les is responsible for the Risk Management, Claims Management, and Legal Department of PIMS. Les received his B.A. and Juris Doctor from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.
Matthew P. Siciliani, Jr. joined the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) in 2017 and is the Senior Vice President of Underwriting & Business Development. Matthew’s primary focus is to lead the underwriting, reinsurance and client management strategies for AEIX. In addition to his core functions, he serves on the executive leadership team with operational and project responsibilities in multiple departments including, Claims, Risk Management and Information Systems. Matthew has over 20 years in the healthcare professional liability industry working with physicians, outpatient medical facilities, community-based hospitals, health systems and academic medical institutions. Matthew brings together experience in strategic planning and team management as well as multiple lines of healthcare insurance products and distribution channels.
Prior to joining AEIX, Matthew held leadership positions with The Doctors Company for 16 years, including Vice President of Underwriting and Director of Custom Account Underwriting. He began his career with TIG Specialty with responsibilities in both claims and reinsurance. Matthew has been a guest speaker on healthcare technology at PLUS and a curriculum advisor for RPLU educational material.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management (BSM) with an emphasis in Organizational Behavior from Pacific Union College and a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) from the Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon.
Joelle Hren assumed leadership of Premier’s insurance operations in July 2015. As President of Premier Insurance, she draws on her leadership background in hospital risk financing, captive insurance, and medical professional liability to direct the core insurance businesses which focus on improving health care quality by providing access to superior cost-effective insurance protection, liability mitigation, and risk management solutions.
Joelle’s main focus is to assist hospitals and health systems identify key industry issues and work to create innovative solutions, using meaningful data and benchmarks, to reduce the total cost of risk. Joelle has over 15 years of experience working with hospitals on alternative risk solutions, patient safety initiatives, quality collaboratives, and managing property and casualty exposures.
She joined Premier in 1997 in Corporate Finance and has held multiple positions of increasing responsibility within the insurance subsidiary prior to being named President in 2015. A business graduate of the University of Southern California, Joelle earned her MBA in health care from the University of California, Irvine.
Vicky Rollins, RN, MHA, CPHRM, CPPS joined Premier Insurance Management Services (PIMS) and the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) team in 2020 as a Senior Risk & Patient Safety Consultant. Vicky’s expertise is in outpatient ambulatory services, physician office practices and hospitals. Prior to joining AEIX, Vicky was the Senior Director, Patient Safety Programs for The Doctors Company for 10 years where she provided loss prevention and patient safety services and education to custom policy holders, large medical groups and facilities. Vicky has a nursing background in med/surg, intensive care and cardiology, and has served in a nursing management role.
Vicky holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences (BSHS) and a Master of Healthcare Administration degree (MHA) from Columbia Commonwealth University. Vicky holds national certifications in both healthcare risk management and patient safety.
Belinda Parker, AU, ARM, ASLI, AINS joined the Premier Insurance Management Services team in 2019 as a Senior Account Executive. She is responsible for marketing strategy, retention, and new business of Premier’s Exclusive Insurance Purchasing and Partnership Programs for the American Excess Insurance Exchange (AEIX) membership throughout Eastern United States. Belinda has over 20 years of property and casualty underwriting, broker management, sales and account management experience. Prior to joining the AEIX and Premier Insurance team, Belinda held positions in underwriting and sales management with Zurich and Liberty Mutual. Belinda’s experience and responsibilities have included developing new territories, rolling out new products, and expanding product distribution across the broker community. Her technical expertise in small business, middle market and large national accounts provides her with the expertise to work across AEIX member hospitals and affiliates. Belinda emphasizes long-term relationships and strategic account management to deliver successful products and services needed to achieve new business and long-term client retention.
Belinda holds certifications and associates in Underwriting (AU), Risk Management (ARM), Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI), General Insurance (AINS), and is currently completing her CPCU. Belinda is a licensed Property and Casualty agent.
